ReFED Adds Food Waste Investor and Philanthropist Ida Posner to Board

March 22, 2024

ReFED is excited to announce that Ida Posner, a food waste investor and philanthropist with a ten-year history with ReFED, has joined the Board of Directors.

Ida is the Founder & Managing Partner of Hawthorne Food Ventures, a venture capital fund that invests in startups working to reduce food waste, and Vice President of Railroad Development Corporation (RDC), a global railway investment and management company. She also serves as Strategic Advisor to the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh, a major funder of the food waste movement and ReFED. She has been a true leader in food waste for many years and is a familiar face to many members of the ReFED community.

“I’m excited to continue growing my relationship with ReFED, which sparked my passion for food waste a decade ago when I first met Jesse Fink and Sarah Vared,” says Ida. “Since then, ReFED has grown into the leading organization working on food waste in the United States, and I am delighted to join the Board to amplify the cause and accelerate solutions.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Ida to the Board,” says Dana Gunders, ReFED’s President. “Ida has been a true champion for the food waste issue for many years, and we’re fortunate to add her expertise and perspective to the Board.”

ReFED’s Board of Directors is currently composed of eleven leaders that represent multiple sectors – business, technology, philanthropy, and nonprofit – and have both expertise and passion for reducing food waste. Led by Board Chair Pamela Murphy, members of ReFED’s Board serve three-year terms, providing guidance on the organization’s strategies and programmatic initiatives, offering technical knowledge, and giving holistic analyses of the challenges and opportunities for food waste reduction.

ReFED is a national nonprofit working to end food loss and waste across the food system by advancing data-driven solutions to the problem. ReFED leverages data and insights to highlight supply chain inefficiencies and economic opportunities; mobilizes and connects people to take targeted action; and catalyzes capital to spur innovation and scale high-impact initiatives. ReFED’s goal is a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food system that optimizes environmental resources, minimizes climate impacts, and makes the best use of the food we grow.
