ReFED Launches Search for Addition to Executive Team

February 28, 2024

ReFED is excited to announce that it is growing its Executive Team with the addition of a new Executive Director and the transition of Dana Gunders to the new role of President. On the heels of a transformational gift from Ballmer Group last year that will help ReFED grow significantly in 2024, these leadership changes will help expand our capacity to continue serving the needs of the food waste space. The new Executive Director will provide organizational leadership with direct oversight of ReFED’s administration, operations, and programs, as well as contribute to our strategic vision and external activities. And as President, Dana Gunders – who has led the organization as Executive Director for the past four years and was a founding Board Member – will focus externally on providing leadership to the broader food waste movement and developing strategic partnerships, while also providing internal strategic direction.

Last year was a banner year for ReFED and the food waste movement, with both attention and activity reaching a new high. The U.S. federal government released its first comprehensive food waste strategy, the U.S. Food Waste Pact and Zero Food Waste Coalition were both launched, and climate-related attention increased as food waste reduction was highlighted as a key strategy at COP28 and other venues.

As a leader in the food waste movement, ReFED takes seriously the role we play in helping to accelerate action that drives progress at scale. Adding this new position and expanding Dana Gunders’ reach will help ensure that we can continue to support the food waste movement, as it builds on the successes of the last year and charts a course for future impact.

We welcome applications for the new Executive Director position. To apply, please see the Position Specification here.

ReFED is a national nonprofit working to end food loss and waste across the food system by advancing data-driven solutions to the problem. ReFED leverages data and insights to highlight supply chain inefficiencies and economic opportunities; mobilizes and connects people to take targeted action; and catalyzes capital to spur innovation and scale high-impact initiatives. ReFED’s goal is a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food system that optimizes environmental resources, minimizes climate impacts, and makes the best use of the food we grow.
