Our Work to Reduce Food Loss and Waste | ReFED
ReFED is a national nonprofit with a holistic view of the food system, working to advance solutions to reduce food loss and waste. Since its inception in 2015, ReFED has developed a trusted history of producing first-of-their-kind tools and resources, providing a full-supply-chain picture of U.S. food waste, cost-effective solutions to reduce it, and methods to track progress. Aligning with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals to reduce food loss and waste by the year 2030, we are distinctive in our aim to leverage data to promote a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food system.
Our Work Includes:
Data & Insights
ReFED leverages data and insights to highlight supply-chain inefficiencies and economic opportunities to generate actionable solutions to reduce the amount of food that goes uneaten.
Capital & Innovation
ReFED catalyzes public, private, and philanthropic capital to spur innovation and high-impact initiatives.
Stakeholder Engagement
ReFED serves to mobilize and connect critical food system players to take targeted action around food waste challenges and solutions.
Business Services
ReFED’s new Business Services program offers a suite of services designed to help food businesses establish and meet their food waste reduction goals.
Global Crisis:
Our COVID-19 Response
COVID-19 sent shock waves through our entire food system — from producers to end recipients — resulting in a surge of on-farm food loss, food business closures, labor shortages, and a growing number of food insecure individuals. By leveraging our central role as a convening organization within the food waste space, ReFED launched several funding initiatives, a "best practices" webinar series, and resource guides to inspire collaboration between businesses, innovators, funders, and service organizations and help them adapt to a new reality.
From accelerators to capital campaigns to convening leadership, learn about the impact we’ve brought to the food system and the work we are doing today.
