Now that we are nearly a year into SB1383’s regulations coming into effect, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made and chart a path forward.

SB 1383, the keystone legislation of California’s organic waste reduction strategy, came into effect at the start of 2022. Jurisdictions all over California have been ramping up organic waste collection services while food businesses have been working to rescue edible food, serving the most vulnerable members of their communities. SB 1383 is widely recognized as one of the most ambitious policy efforts in the United States to address food waste. Now that we are nearly a year into SB1383’s regulations coming into effect, we’d like to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made and chart a path forward. Panelists that represent a variety of stakeholders will reflect on what role they have played, what has worked well, what needs adjustment, and what lies ahead.
