Approximately 38% of food in the U.S. goes unsold or uneaten each year, and it has enormous impacts on our environment, food insecurity, the economy, and more. But a range of solutions already exist to reduce food waste – many of which have a strong potential for investment returns. Across the country and around the world, businesses, governments, nonprofits, funders, and others are already making a substantial effort to address this challenge. But much more needs to be done to achieve national and international goals to reduce food waste by 50% by the year 2030.
ReFED is the leading nonprofit working to reduce food loss and waste in the United States. Using a systems-level approach, we leverage data and insights to highlight supply chain inefficiencies and economic opportunities; catalyze capital to spur investment and scale high-impact initiatives; and mobilize food system actors to take coordinated action.
