Sigmund Freud (1856 – 1939) was the founder of psychoanalysis. The rise of the Third Reich in Germany forced Freud to flee Germany. Sigmund Freud, who achieved fame in the 1920s, reinterpreted the nature of the human psyche as demonstrated in "The Interpretations of Dreams" (1953) to revolutionize psychiatry and psychology. Sigmund Freud, having lived in Austria for 79 years, had to flee to London at age 84 when Hitler's army attacked Austria, proclaiming union with Germany.
