It is 12 years many of us are out of the nation. Days were tough when people from Bhutan in increasing numbers each day landed up in Nepal. It is with the assistance of people working to safeguard human rights, our existence is possible today. I am one among them. I left Bhutan on 11 August 1991. By then, I had passed tenth level of schooling. Your good office needs no explanation on how our people left the country and how the survival maintained. I was awarded with DAFI scholarship in 1993 provided to deserving refugee students by German State Government implemented by UNHCR to complete my higher secondary schooling. As a best student of the year, same scholarship was extended to study Medical Science (MBBS). MBBS is a four-and-a-half plus one years course. The frequent strikes and the university delay costs another 4 – 8 months in addition. I am among few to be privileged to study under this scholarship
programme. I passed MBBS in October 2001 from Institute of Medicine, Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu, securing 1st division (68.9%) and overall 2nd place in the university examination.
I would like to express my extreme thankfulness to UNHCR and its staff who then worked under difficult conditions with great devotion. Also CARITAS had been too helpful. The guidance, advice and the guardianship of Father Amalraj1 is always remembered, the love and encouragement given made me obtain the best. May I also request the concerned to forward this appreciation to the DAFI scholarship programme and persons working with it. May such programme make difference in life of many refugee children in the coming days, too.
THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR SUCH A HUGE ASSISTANCE.
I am interested to continue my studies further. It is tough for me to do this at Nepal because I am a non-national. Non-nationals need to pay capitation fees in terms of dollars for post-graduate studies. Even after years of working, I won’t be in a position to earn the amount to meet the university requirement. Hence, I am seeking for an alternative means and place, where I can work to meet my study expenses. My preferences are 1) Dermatology 2)Radio-diagnosis 3)Internal Medicine 4)Gynecology and Obstetrics. I am trying to find a scholarship to support my studies. Can anyone help me in any of the ways to get enrolled in any university?
